We found the "Challenge of Change" section particularly interesting. This section addresses the barriers to some interprofessional relationships: "SLPs and educators must achieve a shared understanding of their respective roles and expertise as a necessary and first step to building a collaborative relationship. Educators must acknowledge the added value an SLP can bring...and SLPs must be able to maintain their intervention focus." It goes on to discuss how SLPs can make a step toward a more unified classroom approach by shifting AWAY from the mindset of 'teacher training' to 'teacher partnering'. That is, less instructing the teacher on what to do, and more on coming up with solutions together and have consultation go both-ways. We'd love to hear your thoughts on Training vs. Partnering, and any other tips you use for collaborating with teachers/SLPs for classroom reading and writing intervention.
